Paradise

Here's a few images of Mount Rainier, one of my favorite places to go. There's plenty of hikes and view points all around the mountain. It's one of my life goals to climb and summit Mt. Rainier, we'll see if it ever happens.

A reason to be Thankful

Whether big or small our families are our greatest treasures. They are our built in support group and the ones that love us no matter what. They are always there, even if they are hundreds of miles away, and just a phone call away. They are our number one reason to be thankful.

The end of summer 2009 just wasn't long enough. After two trips back to Yellowstone, a couple days of fishing, having family in town for over 3 weeks, a baby blessing, and a 20 mile back country hike you'd think I'd had enough. But no, I wish the fun was still going. Here is my favorite image captured on my camera from the past couple of months. This photograph does no justice to the majesty and beauty that the Grand Tetons display. It was a very spiritual experience camping in the shadow of these mountains. The only noises to interrupt me and my hiking buddy, Zach, were the sounds of birds and the rushing of mountain streams. (Luckily no bears were heard or seen.)

Natalie turned 1 year old last month, and her mother was sure to record it. We shot her studio portrait and then went outside just to get some snapshots of her walking through one of the flower gardens, here in Rexburg.

After only a couple of weeks of being roommates, for their first semester of college at BYU-I, these girls already are feeling like sisters. So when they came asking for a "family" portrait, I was happy to oblige. Showing their closeness the girls came dressed in matching black t-shirts and jeans. Not without some individualism the "sisters" dressed in their own ascent colors, dawning; red, yellow, green, blue, purple, and white.

I know...It's about time.

College Grad!

Courtney is graduating from BYU-Idaho next month and needed a photo to put with her announcement. After scoping out a bunch of locations we were able snap a couple hundred images in only a couple hours time. And we came out with almost 30 great images for her to choose from. (I am posting a few that we both liked.) The hard part is going to be for Courtney to choose the one that she wants everyone to get with her announcement.

In The Jungle...

Ok, I'm sure that you all know I wasn't in any jungle. These pictures were taken at the Portland Zoo in Portland, Oregon. It has been raining here in Idaho all week. There are breaks in the clouds but you never really know when a thunder storm is going to hit and there are always ominous clouds on the horizon. So, because of the bad weather I have been forced to move some appointments back until brighter days. I'm going to get some BYU-I grad pictures taken in the studio, and I'll post those soon. But, in the meantime enjoy these pictures I came across in my library of photos.

Vintage Yellowstone

One of the things I looked forward to the most when My wife and I decided to move to Idaho was the fact that Yellowstone National Park is only a short distance from us. We spent all day there, yesterday, with our 9 week old son, by the way he loved watching the bison that we drove next to on the road. After taking over 400 shots of animals, geological, and geothermal phenomenon I was ready to get home and check out my pictures. After the long trip I was too tired and had to wait till today to take a look. They looked great, here are a few of my favorites, in a vintage style.

Oh How They Miss Him

Benton's Grandparents had a hard time letting him go. I'm sure that they wouldn't have minded keeping him in Washington, and sharing him, while my wife and I moved to Idaho. He knows that they love him, and they will get to see him soon! These are some examples of how even family snapshots can be used to create an artistic view of life.

Buddy Pictures

Hannah and Catherine have been waiting all winter to get some pictures taken together. I kept pushing it off till the spring. Weather in Western Washington can ruin a picture with just a few clouds and winters there are so grey, ugh. I think both girls would agree that it was worth the wait though. After multiple angles and outfit changes these two have some great professional pictures to scrapbook. With one going to school in Idaho and the other in Utah these are going to be great souvenirs of there teenage years together.

TRASH the Dress!!!

Catherine, one of my favorite models, wanted to do something somewhat unique with her prom dress. She wanted to trash it! I took her to one of my favorite spots to shoot, at the Cedar River, and we got her wet. The pictures came out great and she was beautiful. I know she was cold, but she knew exactly what I needed from her to get the pictures we both knew we could get.

My wife and I had a great time taking these pictures documenting a great time in our lives. Now that the baby is here she says that she kinda misses being pregnant. We love our little guy though, and you can be sure I will have some pictures up of him shortly.

Little Boy, Big Personality

This little guy had no problem expressing that he didn't want to have his pictures taken. What he didn't know is that his attitude made for some great photos. Then by the end of it all he had a smile on his face. Wait till he gets to see how well his pictured turned out!

Nature at its Best and Worst!

After weeks of snow in December, the second week of January brought massive amounts of rain. Normally this wouldn't be such a big deal here in Western Washington, pretty normal actually. The problem was things warmed up too, and snow levels raised to about 6,000 ft. With a couple days of constant hard rainfall and melting snows almost every river in our state started to flood. This was my chance to get to see something that doesnt happen all the time, Snoqualmie Falls at flood stage. My wife and I drove up the the falls, on the way there were traffic lights out and roads that were starting to wash away. I was getting the feeling that we might not even be able to get to the falls. When we did arrive we could tell that we were going to be in for a treat, there were more people there than I expected and everyone was soaking wet coming back to the parking lot. We bundled up our coats and made for the observation deck. There was mist everywhere and it was hard to make out the falls at all. I snapped a couple pictures, but they didn't turn out, mist and wind made vision impossible. After feeble attempts of taking pictures at the observation deck I decided my only shot at getting any clear photos of the falls was from the side. Even though the angle wasn't the great I climbed a fence and took the best pictures I could from that vantage point. We returned to the car dripping wet, I felt sorry for the folks that wore nothing but cotton sweatshirts. On the way home we saw this house falling into the Issaquah Creek.

Sometimes you have to act fast. These big, slow falling flakes made for a good photo opportunity. My wife and I rushed outside and snapped a couple shots. They turned out pretty good, except Jessica forgot her coat.

The Greatest Day!

Weddings are the happiest day of our lives. Sometimes, though, they can be the most hectic day of our lives. That's why it is so important to have great pictures to document such a grand occasion. Besides that we all want to be able to share the day with future children and grandchildren.

Brian and Kira Had a small wedding in Portland, Oregon with family and a few friends. We were able to take great pictures that not only recorded their special day but also showed their fun personalities. After all we want to see the people that fell in love with each other, not every picture should be posed. Of coarse there are the photos in front of the church and with the family, and the beautiful backgrounds. I strive to catch the moments that truely show how excited you are to be married, or maybe how nervous you are to start a new life. Brian showed both at his wedding. In one photo he has this look of what just happened and in another it seems he can't wait to get on with the honeymoon.

Classic Seattle

I'm so lucky to live near such a photogenic city. Here are a few classic photos with a little twist. Many people find these locations to shoot from, but I like to change up a classic Seattle picture with some simple editing. With some color correction/adjustment and a couple effects on Photoshop I was able to make up this series of pictures. I'm sure someone out there has a living room that would look great with these prints on it's walls or a home office that needs a little decorating. These clean edits make a normal, common photo a little unique and in some cases a little more interesting to look at.

Derek's Yearbook Photo

Sometimes an entire album of Senior Pictures isn't what people are looking for. And sometimes schedules and timing don't allow you to take half a day or beyond to take all your Senior Pictures at once. But the school does want that one shot for the Senior pages of the yearbook and they want it by about the middle of October. So, I will work my schedule to be as flexible as I need to be. It is my goal to make YOUR pictures the best I can, and that means we aren't going to rush them. Here is an excellent example of that. I worked with Derek and got his one photo he needed for the yearbook, but because he was super busy at school and involved with the school play, he didn't have any other free time for a full shoot. I'll meet up with him again to finish his Senior Picture Collection.

Cathrine's Yearbook Photo

When Catherine came to me and asked me to shoot her Senior Pics, I was happy to oblige. I even had a couple good spots picked out that I wanted to keep unique to her shoot. (I'm always trying to find new spots to shoot great pictures.) Catherine came with a few outfits to change into and some extra make-up and we spend a good 3 hours shooting hundreds of pictures. She was very patient and happy to wait till we got the perfect shots that we both were happy with.

Starting Out!

This is a shot that many people have found online and put on their desktops on their computer screens (it is on mine). In fact I have a friend that claimed to have this exact photo on her computer. I told her that wasn't possible, because I haven't posted it up anywhere online. She couldn't believe that I had taken this picture. We are so lucky to live near such a beautiful city and have so much nature at out disposal. Much of both Seattle and it's surrounding areas have been the inspiration of so much art. This must be why i find myself driving around the city on warm summer evenings taking shots of the skyline, or up in the hills trying to find a new clear shot of Mt. Rainier. I love this art form so much.
